What did the opening 2 minuets establish?
- The opening two minuets in my opinion was used very effectively in order to establish the main information needed in an interesting way in order to engage with the audience.
- The genre of the film was made evident through the the 3 main technical areas sound, mise-en-scence and editing, theses areas were established with such strength that all 3 aspects would have been able able to showcase the films features even when shown in isolation.
- The location also was apparent through the use of old resources; this allowed the audience to understand that it was a reenacted event
- Through the use of images we are able to establish that it was set in the past through the use of old new paper articles and the black and white camera footage. The news papers had clearly been recreated and the photos look realistic which there fore allowed the audience to understand that it was based on true life story.
- Through the use of sound effects and music building we as an audience are also very quickly able to identify the genre of the film. There are several distorted noises that have been emphasised in order to create tension and suspense.
- The use of text was also used in order to create suspense through the style of text
Panic Room (2002) - David Fincher
What did the opening 2 minutes establish?
- In my research I was able to establish that in the first two minuets there was a use of media language this is the made up of mise-en-scene, sound and editing.
- There was several aspects of the film that should have been established that in my opinion were not conveyed to the audience successfully, for example I was unable to identify the genre of the film due to the fact that for the period of 1.43seconds there was only pictures of buildings and moving images of a busy city, before there was very little dialog in the last 20seconds.
- This meant that there were no distinguishable features of a thriller for example the lighting was bright and there were no tense moments due to the majority of the opening being a pan view of the city.
- The majority of the first 2 minutes was taken up by credits and the title. The location however in my opinion was apparent due to the fact that all the shots were in the same locations, therefore portraying to the audience the scenery and environment.
- In my opinion there was no iconic actors that may have attracted additional attention due to the fact that they were not know holly wood stars, another reason for this is because there was no pictures of the actor shown.
How was the informations conversed?
- The information was conversed through the use of 3 main aspects; sound, images, text.
- The film i reviewed was mainly conversing through the use of images and text, this is due to the fact that it was very repetitive.
- The size of the font stayed consistent through out suggesting that everyone who took part in creating the film was giving the same amount of credit and respect.
- Overall there was 17 titles shown which in my opinion was very dragged out and therefore off putting for the viewers.
